Hey guys. So I am going to build a pc for many games, but mainly minecraft. I was looking at other threads and saw that people were saying that the r9 290 runs minecraft (mc) at low fps. Can anyone confirm this, or am I crazy?

Here is the pc I'm getting if its important

Solution
Assuming you're not trolling, the 290 can handle MC... considering it's a higher end GPU. MC doesn't require much of a GPU, and you'd do good getting something like a 750 ti and i3 or i5 if you're mainly worried about that game.

*It's a good build, and will be capable of running much more then Minecraft. Looks good to me.

There's a much better GPU option if you're mainly worried about "MineCraft", yet still want to be able to play other games at respectable settings.

Solution
No the R9 290 doesn't run badly in Minecraft?!?
i play Minecraft with Optifine extreme distance just fine??

And you might want to pick up a GTX770 and get a i7-4770K if you want to play alot of minecraft.. You're only using your cpu there, not the gpu that much.

IMPORTANT!

You should NOT go for the STOCK cooler on this card, it will blow your ears out in its jet-like loudness. With the R9 290(x) NEVER go stock cooler!! Get a aftermarket cooler, would go for an MSI or ASUS one if i where you.
Just wanted to warn you there :)

EDIT: Here's some changes to the build regarding the cpu & gpu, i dont know why you took the most expensive r9 290 you could find lol 😉 Though i would probably go for a GTX 770 or GTX 780 if i where you, no need for the massive gpu performance is minecraft like chargeit also said.

You know, you'd think the i7 would be a much better option, but "MineCraft" ran just as good using my "FX 8320"... Yea, yea, I had to try it out... Though people that say it will run on a toaster haven't seen that f'er loading up a massive chunk of the world... That sucker can bring a system to its knees in the correct spots.

Here, I cleaned it up a bit for you... Though if you're really only worried about "MineCraft", we can do this much, much cheaper...

Whoever said the 290 runs minecraft on low is a load of crap. My 40 dollar graphics card can run it on high no problems, this card is over 10 times that price. I recommend though saving 200 bucks and buying a 770.

Here it is with a 770, which is still fantastic not as future proof, but still 200 bucks cheaper and it seems like it'll support all your needs.

Water cooling though, is really not needed for a rig like this..

If you wanted to save more, then the 760 would still be fantastic.

I have both a i5-4670K and a i7-3770K (respectable ambassador for the i7-4770K) in the house, and i can tell you the i7 runs it better than the i5, though both are overkill for standard max settings. You can easily use up alot of CPU and some GPU power on modding this game (Optifine for super long distance rendering which easily brings cpus at their knees if they aren't powerful enough, and some shaders mods).

And yes it doesn't run the 50% extra in price better, but still enough to make the pros of having a better cpu for everything else on the pc, enough to make the i7 worth it.

Here you go, a "MineCraft" beast...

I haven't played it modded, just know that it doesn't play that differently between this 4770k, and a FX 8320 @ 4.4. I mean, I've haven't gotten super deep into it, maybe 40 hours or so?

Just some ideas. I personally think the guy is trolling... If he wants a $1600 system to play "MC" on, then hell, why not. But, if he doesn't want to spend that much, he can still get a kick butt "gaming" system for less.

yup totally agreed, would be nice if OP could tell us if he wanted to do any modding or so. 😉

lets say i ran minecraft with optifine and some mods at 30fps steady (vsync) with a computer from 2007 at pretty high settings: core 2 quad q6600, 2gb ram, radeon hd4890, and no overclock on anything. my school's computers can run it, and those are so old they still run xp professional. they use athlon proccessors too, from the late 2000s, and integrated graphics. 4gb ram. you can play minecraft with a system under $1000 with max settings

I have a core 2 duo e6550, and 3 gigs of ram. By the way, just because they run Win XP doesn't mean their that old. XP was dominant from around 2002-2009ish when Windows 7 came out. It just bugs me when people say that. A Dell from 03 can run windows 8 even though its "old". All it require its 2 gigs of ram for a 32 bit version..

i didnt mean to make xp sound that old. i still think its one of the best (i would use it but ive been hearing all about the security threats and id rather not have to deal with it) but for a school system to be running xp after its been being announced that microsoft is moving off of xp for a while now. i know its alot of money to upgrade to 7 or 8, but when my teachers talk about the school's budget and stuff they talk about how the football program gets a massive chunk and at the bottom is music and technology (like computers, wifi, software, etc). but thats a whole different debate. lets just say that minecraft can run on nearly anything

My school is giving us all laptops. Were getting Thinkpads and getting right around 80 bucks off each one. A retail copy of Windows 7 is around 90 bucks, so I bet your school could get each copy for around 50-60 bucks.. I don't know though, if you need a copy for every server. I need to learn that.. How big is your school and city you live in? I live in a town of 3600, and our highschool is around 10% of the population (had to feel smart), its around 325-350. To me technology should be king in schools, screw sports.. Lol..

my school has 3000 kids in it, my town has nearly 100,000 people. the high school in the next town over gives every student a macbook air. and i think the budgets have to be more balanced then they are right now.

Well. We were going to get Macs which I wanted especially because we'll have the option to buy them after were out of school. For me that'd be 3 years (sophmore next year, I know I'm young but nerd for life) and Macs life are wayy longer than pc's. I mean, the older IBM Thinkpad's are still trusty, but old was built to last, now it's disposable technology. I hate the whole have it for 2 years and chuck it out the damn door.. My optiplex 755 is from 2009, and runs like a champ. But you know it's our society. Hell, I could live with a computer from 2003 and most kids are like eww it's old or wtf is that? I feel special in this world... Sigh god I wish I could've grown up in the 90's..

Edit- The reason were not getting mac's are because they were only giving 20 dollar discounts versus the 80 for Lenovo's.

Minecraft? While I have never played it, and never will, that game has to have the oldest graphics possible. I would imagine any video card could play it easily.
