R9 290x can't select 60hz desktop

Can't seem to find a way to set the AMD Cata/windows resolution area to 60hz. It maxes out at 30hz. Been researching and can't find any reference to why this is happening, seems like most others have the 60hz option but it flickers, but I cant even find 60hz to begin with. Any info is appreciated. I am using a Samsung HU8550. latest firmware on tv and gpu.

You're connecting with HDMI I assume, looking at the specs of the TV, that's the only digital input options.

Unfortunately HDMI 1.4 does NOT support 4K @ 60hz. Older Nvidia cards were able to drop the color sampling to reduce bandwidth and achieve 60hz that way. Nvidia's second generation Maxwell cards have HDMI 2.0 which can manage 4K@60, but only if the TV supports it (a glance at the specs of your TV just says "HDMI", so you'd have to do some more digging to see what HDMI version it is).

I'm not aware of any workaround on AMD cards which achieves 4K@60 over HDMI. AMD seem big fans of displayport, which (since DP version 1.2, been around for a while) has supported 4K@60... but no HDMI options that I'm aware of.

The tv has only hdmi 2.0 ports, four of them and none of them let me select 60hz at 4k resolutions though. I get 4k at 30hz, but the 1080 to 4000x+ resolutions vanish and are replaced with 720, 1080i, 1080p when i go above 30hz in amd catalyst

As I said, 290X is HDMI 1.4 only. Maxes out at 4K@30hz. Need an Nvidia 980/970/960 for HDMI 2

Those Hawaii cards (290 & 290X) have been out for like 18 months... HDMI 2 wasn't around when they came out. Not possible on your card I'm afraid.

Yes we know, that's why pierrerock made the perfect suggestion.

Displayport 1.2 OUT from your video card (supports 4Kp60) to a HDMI 2.0 port IN on your TV (also supports 4Kp60).

Assuming your TV does accept 4Kp60 signals over the HDMI 2.0 inputs, that solution should work just fine.

Purchase a DP to HDMI 2.0 cable (must be HDMI 2.0, make sure the cable is specifically labelled as such) and connect as I've stated above and you should be good to go.

It outlines just how messy the current 4K connectivity standards are. Early adopters beware, things are a bit of a mess at the moment.
