R9 290x or R9 295X2?

I am in 2 minds on which card to get for triple monitor setup at 1080p and am looking for high settings when gaming. Is the 295x2 an overkill or would it give me that extra bit of performance to run games at high setting across 3 screens or would the 290x do the job? I wont be going for 4K gaming also.

I wonder if some of those vram hungry games would push you over 4gb with 3 monitors.. if so the r9 295x2 would be at a disadvantage since it is 4gb per chip as apposed to a 8gb 290x and adding another one

My mobo only supports Crossfire and not SLI. Id only be going for 60Hz across 3, only have the 1 120hz monitor. So would 290x be enough for for high setting on a triple monitor setup at 1080p and 60hz? I could always crossfire a 290x down the line, it's just the 295x is expensive from what I can see but if it wasn't worth my while getting the 290x I would just wait and save up.

So far I haven't found any definite proof that the extra 4GB VRAM on the 8GB 290x is of any actual benefit over its 4GB counterpart.

Here is one review I found that compares dual GPU setups with the 290x 8GB, in short, in the games they tested, the 8GB did not exhibit any benefit that would make it worth its cost:

Well the website scan.co.uk have the 4GB and 8GB models for pretty much the same price, it's hard to find the info Id like to know online about triple monitor setups. I'll keep looking but from what I'm hearing here I might just go with the single 290x 8GB at the moment and if need be down the line get another 290x 8GB depending on preformance and also the heat of the crossfire might be a bit too much.

If they are the same price, I don't see any harm in getting the higher VRAM version. My conclusion was drawn from the fact that the 290x 8GB version had $100 premium over the 4GB version (which was a few weeks ago).

Happy new year by the way

I have a large intake fan at the front, exhaust at the back and a large cooler master fan on top blowing directly onto my current GPU so Id imagine I should be ok if I do get 2 down the line.
