I'm building a new gaming PC but I cant figure out which GPU to get. Is the 390 worth the extra money to purchase for upcoming games? (Fallout 4, Star Wars Battlefront 3)
(I have someone willing to sell me a 290X about $120 cheaper than I can find a 390)

The 290x is going to be your better buy but you should be told that the r 290 is almost as good as the 290x and runs a lot cooler and oc wells and there are bigger savings with that card as well.. Right now your paying more for there 300 cards because there new and only one car has the new memory as to date now.

doesnt mean he can get a 290 for that price..,..

See this website: http://videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html
The R9 290X outperforms the 390, but you have to decide for yourself if the performance increase is worth the extra money. It isn't a big difference, so I would go for the 390, especially if the 290X you are going to buy is used(used parts are often sketchy). If it isn't used, then it really is your decision. Is $100 worth the extra FPS? Here is another site that can help you with that... a chart for value(G3D Mark Score / Price).
http://videocardbenchmark.net/gpu_value.html

On that chart, the 290 and 390 are above the 290X.
Hope this helps :)

I didnt think you understood. he can get the 290 120$ less then he can get the 390, meaning if the 390 sells for 330$ today, he can get the 290 for 210$.

I thought he was buying all new parts but hey the 290 is a lot less then the r 300 cards and yes everyone of them are rebranded except the fury cards!

Oh yeah my bad... Read wrong. But still, that chart should show him that he will get better performance out of the 290X, and if he can get it for cheaper, he probably should.
