R9 290x vs R9 390 which would be better for the price to performance

I want to know which one would be better for the price the R9 290x or the R9 390

The 290X is faster. The 390 and 390X are slightly overclocked 290 and 290X, resepctively with a modified BIOS. The GPU itself is exactly the same.

Apparently, it's also possible to flash the 290X to a 390X (I cannot verify this, however).

The only physical difference is the 390X has 8GB vs. 4 on the 290X. You don't need 8GB.

The 390 beats the 290x in benchmarks. Thus, if both are very close in price, the 390 is the better choice.

If you don't want to overclock, then yes, the 390 will be a bit faster. Basic overclocking on a video card is rather simple, however.

The thing is, the only reason the 390 scores the way it does is because it is an overclocked 290. If you boosted the 290X to the same core and memory speeds, it would wipe the 390 across the board.
