R9 290x2 crossfire with R9 290x

My friend is insisting that you can crossfire these two cards together. I am not convinced. Anyone know if you can?

Yes you can for TriFire if your motherboard supports it

if it was nvidia cards No chance in hell u cant even SLI 670 with a 760 without a bios flash

how ever in amd case u can pretty much Crossfire anything lol

You can do what's called Tri-Crossfire-X:

It doesn't need any hardware just plug in a 295X2 and 290X and go. Of course if they are the same brand that would help. The 290X will be clocked down to match the 295X2 however

Same thing. The 290X2 is third party adaptations of a dual 290X dual GPU setup, the 295X2 is AMDs official design.

It will still work. For AMD, so long as it is the same chip (i.e. Hawaii XT and Hawaii XT) then it will be able to be put into any CFX configuration up to 4 GPUs.
