Good morning,

I was looking to upgrade my graphics card to the 295X2 and was a bit concerned about the power requirements. I currently have a 750W Corsair TX PSU and am running an i7 950 CPU with GTX 680s in SLI and am fine. Do you think I could get by using this power supply with a 295X2?

I appreciate your insight,

Tony

I would pull 690 to 770 watts at the wall in my system. I only have an hx850 so I wanted to actually test and see what the power draw was even though must everything I had seen said that 850 watt was the minimum. For my level of comfort I like to have a bit of wiggle room between power draw at the wall and the rated spec of the power supply.

It will certainly be close, I took the plunge. Worst case I will have to buy a new PSU if it doesn't work out. I will post my results when it arrives.

Sounds like a plan. It is a really nice card card at an amazing price. What resolution are you running?

I'm gaming at 2560 x 1600. Not being able to run Dragon Age Inquisition on Ultra is what drove me to want to upgrade. I think I got a steal, I paid $650 for the new 295X2 and plan on getting $400 of that back by selling my old GTX 680s. This is my first ATI card, I have always been on team green; should be interesting.

I am running 1440p with my first nvidia setup (970 sli). $650 is a steal, I thought I got a deal at $1k based on the original price.

Game on! Cheers 😀

So if you're psu is rated at 750 and the draw alone is at least 700 under load let's assume without an overclocker what's the rest of your system supposed to run on. That's cpu, ram, fans, more.. Also each 8pin plug must be on a 12v rail w/28a of continuous power? Just food for thought.. I agree with previous answer. Honestly I'm worried about running this card on a 1000 Watt psu I honestly wouldn't try on a 750

The reviews report full system draw... which includes the entire system (fans, hard drive , cpu). That gives me 50 watts of head room (not to mention the overload capacity of my PSU). In the era of certified PSUs you know your supply is guaranteed to at least reliably provide its specifications (which includes a 60A 12V rail for me). As long as you have a decent 750W unit you should be ok. I have been running my build stable (with the R9 295x2) for over a month now through which time I have played through Crysis 3 and Tomb Raider without any system crashes.

What I learned from this process was to do the research myself rather than take blind advice from users on here. If you have a truck that is rated to carry 750 lbs and you only want to haul 700lbs would you recommend that person to buy a new truck that can hold 1000lbs? It just doesn't make any sense, people are still caught up in the days where the rating of a PSU wasn't reliable. That has since changed thanks to 80 Plus.
