Just a random question: what would be better for 4K resolution? Crossfire R9 295X2 or R9 290X Quadfire? Not planning to do this at all, just curious.

EDIT: Meant to say Crossfire R9 295X2 in title.

Running Sapphire 290/Gigabyte 290x/MSI 290 on a Gigabyte z97 SOC mobo, i7 4790k, Kingston hyperbeast 2400mhz 16gb, samsung 840 evo 250gb ssd, no dvd drive, thermaltake 875watts psu, antec 300. Get 3dmark 11 21740, 30 to 40fps Fsx on 4k res,Nice! Temps max 90c on 3dmark 11. max watts peak @ 900watts for a few seconds, max watts 600 on Fsx, max temps 60c .

Both provides flawless gameplay @ 4k res.. When benchmarks are concerned, the quadfire wins.. But it will generate heat as hell.. From efficiency point of view the Crossfire r9 295x2 wins

Hi,
theoretically both will run the same. However considering that 4 290xs will need a specific motherboard to run while the 295x2 CF will only need any CF ready motherboard to run. Heat problem with 4 290xs running in close proximity will probably need full waterblocks for all 4 cards while the 295x2 has already a radiator and pumps attached (albeit too small for the heat generated).
Price point is another discussion altogether.
I have gone the latter option...
