Hey guys. I recently got a new xfx r9 380 to put in my ancient computer. It has a dp45sg mobo a core 2 duo e8500 and a cooler master 750w psu. when I put in the new card it powers on, and gpu fans spin. But no post beep or any display. Bios is fully updated (last update was in Jan of 2010 lol), I've Uninstalled drivers with ddu, tried to boot with one stick of ram, and reset the cmos. Computer gives a post beep without any graphics card, boots properly with the old gpu, but no boot with just the r9 380 or both gpus in. Im thinking its the newer uefi of the gpu conflicting with the older legacy of the motherboard.

Solution

In that case, it's either a mobo incompatibility or PSU issue. Time to start thinking about replacement

Thanks for the input. I plan to buy a new motherboard and cpu (athlon x4 860k and gigabyte f2a68hm) but the pcie slots on my current mobo are pcie 2.0. Is that gonna make a difference at all?

How would one go about installing a bios revision?

Go to the manufacturer page (this case intel), search for their support/driver download page for your particular product (varies from manufacturer to manufacturer, but always very easy), and check their BIOS/Firmware/driver section and follow all the instructions listed (often also listed in your manual)

I just talked to an NCIX tech service person and they said that the card only runs on UEFI firmware, and not on legacy bios. It is indeed a firmware issue, and can be solved with a new motherboard that supports uefi.
