R9 380 or GTX 960 for Fallout 4

The 960 is not a low end card. It is a mid range card the same as a 380. With that being said, I would recommend the 380, theres just more power to be had.

That's funny... I consider the 970 to be their midrange card and the 950 & 960 their low-end card... unless you're trying to imply the 960 is a mid-range card that compares to the 970?. I'm just sticking to the three basic categories. some people like to have Low, then Low-mid, mid, mid-high, then high end... if you use that scale, then the 960 would fit into the Low-mid category... but for all intents and purposes, it's still considered a LOW END or ENTRY LEVEL GAMING CARD... in other words... the minimum you would need for decent gaming...

If you are only buying your card for BF4, you should go for the 380, but if you are going to play other high end AAA games, i would recommend by personal experience that you go for the 960 because more and more games, are getting optimized for Nvidia, and not for AMD, which would cause performance issues. But, if you are only buying it for BF4, go for the 380 because BF4 is optimized for AMD, even though it runs great on nvidia cards too.

Bwhahaha the 970 as a midrange card?? What are you smoking? AMD fanboyism? The 970 is a high end enthusiast card. It's the bottom tier of the enthusiast cards (970/980/980 ti). It's the direct competitor to the 390. Do you consider the 390 midrange? It's totally way out of the league of mid range gpu. Yea consider a $350 gpu midrange.... The 960 and 380 are midrange gpus. The 970 is NOT.

Avoid the R9 380:
– The R9 280X comes with 2048 shader processors, 128 texture units and 32 ROPs. Frequencies of 1000MHz/6000MHz for the core and memory respectively.
– The R9 380 comes with 1792 shader processors, 112 texture units and 32 ROPs. Frequencies of 970MHz/5500MHz for the core and memory respectively.
The Radeon R9 280X may be older, but it’s more powerful than the R9 380.
You may argue that the R9 380 comes with 4GB, but at a resolution of 1920 x 1080 (1080p/Full HD), there’s no advantage in having 4GB over 3GB. At higher resolutions, neither the R9 280X nor the R9 380 is powerful enough to run games with playable frame rates.
Power consumption and requirements:
The Geforce GTX 960 consumes less power than the Radeon R9 280X: It consumes 4W less at idle and roughly 70W less at load, again according to TechReport.
What video games can the Geforce GTX 960 4GB run smoothly?
This the ideal card if you want a card capable of handling games at 1920 x 1080 (1080p or Full HD), with details at or close to maximum settings in most games.

The best investment if you want to futureproof and only buy one card is the GTX 970.
Everything else would be less money and less FPS.
If money or a budget build is a goal. Then get the GTX 960.
