So, Ive had my PC for awhile and the same problem occurred. My computer would only use the integrated video card and not the r9 380. I have no idea how i fixed this, and i can't remember. I tried downloading the AMD Catalyst 15.7.1 driver but nothing happened, even after a reboot. please help ASAP

well, when i check my display settings it says im using Microsoft Basic Display Adapter... idk, I went to my BIOS menu and made sure its using PCI-E and not integratred and my cable is plugged in to my GPU, not the plug from the mobo

When it says "Microsoft Basic Display Adapter", it means you don't have a driver installed. I know in your post you said you tried installing the catalyst control center but you weren't very specific. I need you to try and install it again. If there are any errors, make sure to put it in your post.

I've tried downloading AMD's catalyst software suite multiple times. After it gets installed and I go onto the AMD CCC it only has like 4 options to choose from. Don't know what to do. What exactly do i need to download??

I've had the problem before. It means that the system doesn't detect your R9 380. You may need to RMA the card as it might be defective but before that, try running an older driver first

Hopefully this can detect your card. It also couldn't hurt to make sure the card is in the slot all the way and that you have hooked up the addition power cables required. If you have a second PCIe slot, try using it in that one. If your motherboard bios has the option, set PCIe speed to Gen2 (PCIe 2.0).

I dont think its defective, I did a full reboot of my computer a few days ago but the GPU was working fine before that...

Rebooted once, then i got hit with an error saying failure to configure windows update, then I did another full reboot and just set everything up. Downloaded Opera, and Steam to play CS:GO and got hit with a an error saying it couldnt run due to GPU being weak, basically. So i checked and saw it was Microsoft Basic Display Adapter... havent done nothing since but try and download AMD CCC... Do I have to download a driver from my GPU makers website? I got a PowerColor r9 380 and they have driver downloads but it says (Taiwan) next to it...

when I got to open system restore it only has one option and that was yesterday, when I still had the same problem

I found AMD cards to be problematic (even though im taking a gamble to order the R9 390 from my GTX 680) - You are probably better ordering NVIDIA for now and replacing that card. Its a pain in the arse but yeah, if you can't find a solution you will have far less problems with NVIDIA.

I used to believe people like you but as it turns out an opinion is just an opinion. I've had a GTX 970 that had FAR more peoples that all of my AMD and ATI cards combined. Unless you've actually bought and tested a good chunk of each manufacturer's cards, you shouldn't be commenting on the whole when you only have a tiny piece. I would challenge you to back up your words with data. From all the reviews I've see, both side have their fair share of issues.

Can you test the card in another slot on your motherboard or in another computer? It's looking more and more like it may be defective.

It probably sounds a bit more sweeping than I meant it to.

It comes off the back of having multiple versions of the same card replaced for driver issues which took a very long time to get sorted.

I do appreciate however, you can have driver issues with any card maker.

Good thing they at least replaced the card for you. I had a Gigabyte GTX 970 where they sent me back the same card without any communication. I contacted both Nvidia and Gigabyte and neither would do anything for me.
