r9 380 vs gtx 970, RAM and bits

Hi Everyone,
I have been reading a few threads lately comparing R9 380 and GTX 970.
R9 380 has 8Gb Ram and 512bits, whereas GTX 970 is 4Gb RAM and 256bits only.
Most of the comparisons show marginal differences between the two.
What I have not been able to understand is how Half the RAM and Memory bandwitdth still enables GTX 970 to be nearly equal with R9 380.
can anyone please eleborate it for me???

Mainly because the limiting factor is the gpu itself, the extra ram and bandwidth doesn't add much in most scenarios as it wasn't the limiting factor in the first place. 8gb vram is more marketing gimmick unless you want to run high resolutions but for high resolutions you want a pair of higher end gpu's

the 970 is a lot faster than a 380 actually

R9 380 comes with 2 GB and 4 GB version and has 256 bit bus. The R9 390 comes with 8 GB Vram and has 512 bit bus, its more or less competitor card from AMD for the Nvidia GTX 970.

It's more or less a tie as far as gaming performance goes, in some cases the gtx 970 is ahead and in others the r9 390. Right now r9 390 is ahead in most cases.

Being AMD the R9 390 has more Gflops and is better for emulator and other homebrews. But in turns consumes a lot more power.
It also has fps variations and consistency varies from games to games.

The Nvidia has relatively low power requirement and gives much consistent performance and stable fps across a lot of games.

You cant go wrong with either of them pick the one which is cheaper and has better warranty.

In my country the r9 390 is priced near the gtx 980, So I personally use the GTX 970, the Zotac version which comes with 5 year warranty
