I have an old R9 380x nitro that I just installed for the first time in an HP Z440 workstation that is a work in progress....Still unable to install an operating system even with restore media, but that's another issue.
I installed the card and made sure it was properly seated and connected through HDMI. Screen looks good although it is utilizing onboard video as no card drivers installed yet. One thing I noticed though is that initially both fans spin for about 2 seconds, and then every few seconds one spins, and then the other. They are quiet, and spin with ease. I know that many if not all current GPU fans are set to only spin regularly when under load or at time to bring temp down, but I have never seen this personally. I am using the stock 700 watt PSU and there are only 2 PCI 6 pin connectors which is what the card requires.
My concern is that perhaps the card is not getting enough power and that is the cause for the fan issue, or is this just simply normal for this card, (and many others I suspect). Since I am still trying to figure out how to get Windows 7 64 bit reinstalled with restore media, (and then plan to upgrade to 10), I am unable to put the card under load with a game.
Any insights would be appreciated. Thank you.
