R9 390 or push for GTX 970?

The R9 390 I'm looking at on newegg is about 270$, I'm upgrading from a 1 GB ATI 6870 (I never realized how horrible it is to run with only 1 gb of vram). The GTX 970 I'm looking at is a refurbished Gigabyte GTX 970 on neweggs too, at 290$ which is barely below the 300$ limit I have. I'm also worried about either GPU working with my OCZ 700w PSU, which I haven't heard quite stellar things about.

Haha yeah 1 gig of VRAM can be hefty but, I would get the 390 personally. Has a higher stock clock speed. Could you link the ones you're looking at?

I'd get the R9 290X 512 bandwidth memory also, 2 fans other than 1 and a free game xD. And your PSU is more than enough.

Any reason? I thought GTX 970's were better, generally.

Well, it has 512 bit GDDR5 memory whereas 970 only has 256 bit. Also the R9 290 has dual fans for better cooling. Also the 290 has a better memory clock.
