Hello

Ive good a question which I cant answer myself
I cant decide between these two crads
I play on a 1080p screen. play games like bf4/3 witcher 3 shadow of Mordor
Price wise theyre both the same

Solution
The 390X if it didn't cost much extra. I wouldn't pay an extra $100 for it maybe $60 but it all depends on what your goals are. If you are going to overclock the go with the 390x is better. If you can get a 290x 8GB for $50+ less an are not going to overclock then go with it.. You really can't go wrong with either one..
I would get the 290x becuase it would be slightly faster, both are good choices, but have you looked into getting a GTX 970? If you ar going to buy a x90 series, make sure you have a sufficient PSU

yea so looks like 390 would offer better performance
But the 290x has more ROPs and shaders
does that make a difference?

The 390 is a just a tweaked 290 with higher clocks newer firmware and 8GB of memory, same with a 390x vs 290x. the 290x is running at lower clocks than the 390 but has more ROP's and shaders so if running at the exact same clocks the 290x 8GB should be faster than a 390.. If you are going to use it at stock clocks get the 390 over 290x 8GB (if they are the same price). If you can get a 290x 8GB for a less money then go with it..

thanks for your reply
but dont they have the same memory(hynix)
correct me if im wrong

What about the GTX 970?

The gtx 970 has a good oc
but lacks with only 3.5 (My opinion)
Im scarred that games in the future will use more than 3.5 gb

IIRC there were 290's and 290x's with hynix, elphia, and samsung memory.
Not sure about the 390's and 390x's

which one of these does the sapphire have?

From all the Gpu-z screen shots I have seen only Hynix..

So the only difference is that the 290x has a lower clock speed in comparison to tho r9 390x ?

A 290X 8GB has a lower core clock and lower ram clock and older firmware/power management than a 390X. Other than that they are the same.

So if i oc to a 390x it would have the same speed?

Yes according to this: http://www.hardocp.com/article/2015/06/18/msi_r9_390x_gaming_8g_video_card_review/9#.VjKdnrerQ1I

Which one would you choose?
