I currently have a reference AMD Radeon RX 480 with 8 GB of VRAM that I bought a month ago for €100. Since the cooler isn't the best (enough for me), I can trade it for a better one with 2 fans for a maximum of €10. Although that's a good option, should I buy an AMD Radeon R9 390X (MSI GAMING 8 GB) and keep €40? I'm not in need of the money badly, but, since it performs the same and has a better cooler, I think it's a good option. In my use case, it will take one and a half years to consume €40 more in electricity. Since I don't pay the bills, that's also not a problem (cheeky). What do you think?

For me,

RX 480

Pros:
- newer and will be supported longer (not an issue
- lower power consumption (not a problem for me)

Cons:
- costs €40 more

R9 390X

Pros:

- costs €40 less

Cons:

- older and will lose support sooner (not a problem)
- higher power consumption (not a problem)

As I wrote this, I further believe saving €40 is worth it in my case. I just nerd a second opinion. Thanks!

Potential side effect of the (much) higher power consumption (275W vs 150W):
  • Room gets warmer
  • Inside of PC case likely will get warmer, as will other components (depending on your exact setup)
  • More fans/cooling needed
    • As a result of that, more noise.
