race 86? cant beat it in underground

i think its race 86 and been stuck on this for ages .
dont know what to do tried every car and seem to come second and
if i look like im gonna win i either crash or get pushed out the way :-(
any ideas??

downgrade, then the computer cars downgrade too...
then you can beat them.
