Hello! I have having epic problems with 3D gaming on my rig. It will either give me the "ati2dvag.dll caused an infinite loop" on a bad day or the screen will freeze 5mins into a game , reset and come back for another 30s before freezing again. After recovering three times CCC will crash and take the game along with it. Everything was working fine till I upgraded my bios to ver 3.0 and then it hasn't been the same since.
The Hardware:
AM2NF3-VSTA MoBo
Phenom 8450 triple core
Sapphire Radeon 3850 AGP
2x 2gb Corsair CMX2 5-5-5-18 800mhz 1.8v
500Wd Sata HD
SB Live!
450W Saga+ PSU (max 16A on the 12V rail)
*nothing is overclocked
The Software:
Running bios ver 2.8
Using the nforce GART ver 3.77 (and the other Mobo drivers in the same package)
Ati CCC ver 9.6 (normal or hotfix - both crash)
Win XP SP3
What I have tried:
A. With bios ver 3.0 and 2.8 I have tried disabling fast writes, sideband addressing, and tried AGP running at 4X. Tried setting AGP voltage from Auto to high and also to low.
B. Have also tried Ati CCC 9.5, and 9.4 both normal and hotfix - removing with driver sweeper and CCleaner after uninstalling. Also tested the driver only (with out CCC). Reinstalled GART driver either before of after a fresh install of the video drivers.
C. Switched positions of my two PCI cards. Also removed them altogether.
D. I don't have a better PSU to try but I did use an additional 400W PSU to power my GPU.
E. Reinstalled DX9 and .Net 3.5
F. Instead of leaving my RAM bios setting to auto I set it to the recommended settings of 400mhz 5-5-5-18 (on auto it stays at 268mhz 4-4-4-12).
G. EDIT - Checked temps of Mobo, GPU and CPU and cleaned out all fans.
I am hoping for some additional suggestions. Maybe someone had a similar CPU configuration. I think that my problems started when I upgraded to the bios ver 3.0 or when I installed ATI ccc 9.6 because the problems started around then. I have read in several places that the GART 3.77 driver is the best to use in this setup but I am not sure about the other MoBo drivers I have (maybe the IDE, MemCrl, SMbus are junky). Thanks for reading this wall-o'-text and I look forward to your ideas.
