Radeon 4870 runs in low FPS

Hi,

I bough a Radeon 4870 HD 1024MB DDR5 , but the crysis deo runs in 8FPS in average for settings 1024 x 800 4AA. My system settings are as fellows

Gigabyte EP35-DS3P MOTHER BOARD
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E8200 @ 2.66GHz
2048 MB Kingstion Memory.
500 W Amacrox PSU

I cant understand why is this running in this low FPS. is there any configuration that i have mised out.

Your specs are fine, just make sure your PSU is working fine. Are you getting any artifacts while playing Crysis?

thanks for the reply, sorry I didn't understand on artifacts, does that mean any programs running while running the game.

No an artifact is a glich is the picture. Like some pixels change colors or black bars go across the screen.

If you get artifacts then it could be the card or the PSU.

I can play cyrsis at high setting at 1920x1080 with 2xAA over 30 FPS with my 4870 512mb

So something might be wrong.

No I didn't get any gliches. How could I make sure the VGA is working fine. What are the benchmarking tool that I can use and any references on 4870 benchmarks.

Does your VGA fan starts to run in high speed when you playing games, I notice my VGA fan runs in the same speed when start to run the game and it s much slow.

Mate, at 1024x800 rez, you're creating a major bottleneck at the GPU. Try OCing the CPU at 3,5Ghz and also try increasing the resolution. The lower the rez is, the more the load on the CPU as it struggles to feed the GPU. Also if you're playing on very high, put it just on high.

Bottleneck does not produce 8FPS...Theres a hit.. but not that dramatic.
What driver version are you using? Are you using the driver that came with the card? You might want to download the new Catalyst 8.11. uninstall the previous driver and reinstall again.
What is your OS?

8fps sounds to me like the drivers are not loaded properly. The only way a 4870 would run that slow is if it has a serious problem and needs to be RMA'd, it's running off the standard VGA windows drivers, or there is a conflict with your previous drivers.

My suggestion is to try reinstalling the drivers. Try the Omega Drivers.

Hi thanku all for the replies . I reinstall with the catalyst 8.11.
Ran the crysis benchmark tool and here are the results.


Run #1- DX9 1600x1200 AA=No AA, 32 bit test, Quality: High ~~ Overall Average FPS: 16.565

Run #1- DX9 1920x1080 AA=No AA, 32 bit test, Quality: High ~~ Overall Average FPS: 16.73

Run #2- DX9 2048x1536 AA=No AA, 32 bit test, Quality: High ~~ Overall Average FPS: 16.334444444444444444444444444

Run #2- DX9 2048x1536 AA=No AA, 32 bit test, Quality: High ~~ Overall Average FPS: 16.381111111111111111111111111.

Looks like its running in 16FPS whatever the resolution.

Does the CPU or PSU bottle necking now.

Hi Thanku very much and hats off to u all. i overclocked my PC by increasing the FBS and the CPU multiplier, which now crysis runs in whopping 38 - 40 FPS in 1920 - 1080 4AA.4870 is a Beast.

I just got my 4870 off of ebay. While trying to play crysis, I get low frames per second. Around 15. Everything is on very high but I have an old monitor vga lcd monior that only supports up to 1024x768 res. I tried overclocking it by using auto tune, it overclocked it for me it set the gpu clock to: 800mhz and the memory clock to 995 mhz. Than I played crysis and it lagged even worse and than black lines came up all over the screen and crysis crashed. 😱 I have heard people getting their gpu clocks all the way up to 850. I have no clue what the problem is. I think that increasing the cpu multiplier should fix this but I have no clue how. Can someone please respond to this?

Don't hijack an ancient thread to gripe about your issues.. If you have a problem post a new thread, this one is already resolved...

Crysis crashed because the overclock was not stable. Never use auto tune... Read some guides on how to overcock so you get at least some clue what you are doing. Just because someone got to a certain overclock does not mean you will. 850mhz is beyond a massive OC for a 4870, would not be possible without water cooling, a lot of luck, and a voltage modification.

The cpu multiplyer has nothing to do with the GPU overclock.

PLEASE, read some guides on overclocking or you will end up destroying your machine...

Also, when you make your new thread, please include detailed system specs so we can have some idea what you are working with.

Well people found the answer here and i was simply asking what they did to fix it.
