I have recently just built my first PC

i7 -3770k
Gigabit GA-Z77-D53H
16 gb Corsair Vengeance
OCZ Zt 550w Modular
Gigabyte Radeon HD 7950 3GB

When the video card is plugged in I get no signal to my monitor, via hdmi, vga or dvi, but as soon as the video card is removed, i can access the BIOS

Yea, neither plugging it into the CPU or GPU produces a video output, when plugged into the CPU without a GPU present, the video works fine though.

If this is a new GPU, i suggest you reset your bios and then select PCIe display output in bios, you will have to connect the monitor through your onboard video output to do this

Should be like this.. enter bios>Peripherals>GFX Configuration> PCIe or PEG

Everything is fully plugged in, all lights and fans turn on, but just no signal to the monitor, unfortunately, i don't have a spare of anything, so i cannot test other parts.

I shall try this and see what happens, thanks for the reply

When I change the "init display first" and then reboot it just changes it back, that seems to be the only option that I can change to pci, if you meant for me to do this with the gpu in, I can't, as it won't even get to bios even if the monitor is plugged into the cpu

what i meant was connect the monitor to your on board VGA/DVI output not the 7950, its located on the back of the motherboard, then go into bios>Peripherals>GFX Configuration> PCIe or PEG

or the easiest way - reset Bios/Clear CMOS - should work after you done this

I've tried with the DVI attached to the CPU, and i have tried resetting the bios before,

But whatever I try, as soon as I put the GPU in, no signal to the monitor, no matters where its plugged in?

Could it just be a duff GPU straight from the box?

As I have just bought the GPU am I able to return and get a replacement free? or will there be extra charges?

depends, if you bought it from a local dealer - it'll be free, if you RMA - you may need to pay for the shipping charges

Cheers for all your help, looks like I will be replacing it as soon as possible. Lets hope the next card isn't faulty.
