i have a laptop with 512 MB ram and ATI Radeon 9000 with 128MB shared memory.
the system specs for the laptop says 512MB ram, but i find only 384MB when i run sisoft sandra (and even in My computer). So the question is whether the remaining 128MB is used solely by the graphics card, or does my system have only 384MB ram.

Yes, the graphics card is using it. "Shared Memory" means the system's memory is shared with the graphics card. In a desktop PC, a Radeon 9000 card would have it's own "Dedicated" memory on the card itself.

You probably have the option to share less in the BIOS; I'd assign 64 megs to the card instead if I were you.

It'll still run newer games, with slightly lower resolution textures, but the system will probably run a little smoother with that extra RAM.
