Radeon 9600 + AGP 2X MOBO??

No it's only AGP 4X and 8X compatible.

If your MOBO is AGP 2.0 and supports 2X AND 4X then you're good, if it only supports AGP 1X and 2X then you cannot use the R9600Po. Either get an R9700non-pro or an R9500pro.

i was able to make it work but, after loading win98 the mouse freeze up. And it hangs, no other choice than to press the reset button. All drivers are installed and are-up-to-date.

my MB is 4x but i am running my 9600 pro in 2x mode for greater stability...Although i still get lockups, they are not as frequent as they were under 4x.

a 2x AGP MB..doesn't that run at 3 volts?

does it impact the performance big time.

well i don't know what it would be under 8x..

but there is no penalty going from 4x to 2x.

the real solution of turning off agp write/read (costs 25% performance)

one day i will upgrade my k7t266 pro r motherboard :)

AGP 1.0 is 2x and 3.3v. AGP 2.0 is 4x/2x and 1.5v/3.3v. Your board is using the 1.5v standard (automatically detected) with the 2x transfer (manually set).
