Hi

First of all I have to say that this is a great place for newbies like me to get expert information. Thank you!

I only have a P 4 1.2GHz and wanted to know if a Radeon 9600 non-pro is a good choice for my computer, since I guess that the pro version would be to fast for my aging computer anyway. Any suggestions?

Thanks a lot
Marcel

Ummm, do you mean the P3 1.3Ghz? Im not sure but I thought Intel only made down to 1.3G P4 (but im probably wrong!). Either way that would seem like a good choice to match your cpu. however if your looking to upgrade in the future you might want to consider the Pro model as it does provide quite an increase in performance.

Depends on what video card you have right now.

If it's a decent card (DirectX 8 compatible), then your best bet would be to upgrade your processor. If it really *is* a P4, then your motherboard should take a faster processor without too much hassle.
That would give you much more of a performance boost.

If you currently have onboard video or a GeforceMX or Radeon 7xxx, then a 9600 would be a good purchase and should give you a boost, plus it will work much better when you actually DO upgrade your CPU/mobo.

Radeon 9500 (hardmodded to PRO, o/c to 322/322)
AMD AthlonXP 2400+ (o/c to 2600+ with 143 fsb)

Thanks for all the replys!

Well, actually I wanted to know, if there will be a huge difference between a 9600 and a 9600 pro in my old P4 1.2 GHz. In other words, is it really worth to spend the extra money for a pro (I'll be stuck with my old computer for a while...).

Thanks again

90% of the time, your processor will be the limiting factor as far as frames per second.

I doubt you'd see much of a difference between the 9600 and PRO version.
