Ok, here is what I did. I installed my ATI card on top of old Nvidia drivers. Everything worked fine. Then I realized what I had done and thought, hmm, maybe I could get a few more frames if I actually uninstall the nvidia drivers. Ok, no prob, everything worked fine. Then I read an article on the 9600XT and the OC feature in the driver. So I installed an older driver off the CD that came with the retail version on top of the new ATI driver from ati.com and screwed everything up. When I tried to uninstall the ATI software it would give an error saying that it could not initialize. Sometimes it would completely lock up and I would have to end task. So I ran driver celaner about 4 times. Got rid of all Nvidia and ATI junk. I even ran this with an old PCI video card instead ot the actual ATI. Put my ATI card back in. The normal video driver won't even load. When I run the ATI software new/old it says that I need to try and load the ATI card with a normal vga driver first. Well I get splatted in device manager when I try and do that. It won't even load the drivers from the CD or the ATI driver off the web from device manager.
Now I've install'd an Nvidia GeForce MX420 (yay). Of course that installs fine. I even uninstalled/reinstalled the VIA drivers. My last resort is a reload. (I'm running an SFC right now as I write this from a stupid Mac)
Anyone else have any suggestions? Commments? Thanks!

Seriously... Try to "repair windows XP" with your XP CD... If this don't help, reinstall XP!

This might prove to be valuable info, there seems to be quite a few people with similiar problems. Maybe you should post this and let others know.
