I recently purchased a Radeon 9700 and it seems to have a problem with Dungeon Siege. I only get 30 to 40 fps with it. In 3DMARK2001 my score is 12578. I have catalyst version 2.5. Is this a hardware problem or a software problem?
I have a Pentium 2.4 GHz, 768 Megs of pc2100 ram, and an Intel D845GBV motherboard.

Its running perfectly fine in my opinion, i own a 9700pro and i get about 27fps at max detail 4xaa 16xasf in dungeon siege. I also only get about 10800 3dmarks on an athlon 2100+ and SDram. Let me put it in perspective, with the exact same system and settings i was getting about 10fps on an 8500 in dungeon seige.

Why do all People seem to think their is a problem when they get less then 20000 3dmarks and a 100fps in all games,no matter what the rest of their systen is? If people are disapointed with the radeon9700's performance then your in trouble, because thats as good as it gets right now with video cards. And if any of you are waiting for a geforceFX you will be even more disapointed since its not that much better then the 9700.

By the time this alleged Gforce FX comes out ATI will have something even better.

well if you think of it in that way.. then nVidia will release something better then the next Ati release.. and then Ati will release something else better then that, and so on and so on.. so you won't be ahead unless you have about 430$ ready everytime the new card comes out.. so theres no point. either stick with ati and just keep getting there new cards ... or stick with the nVidia Line and keep getting those.. or just keep getting the newest release from each Manufactur... i mean if you really think about it, that's how it is really... people who bought the 9700pro, the the gf FX is better..... and now ati will release something to beat that... so you as a buyer never wins..lol..

I am not disappointed with the video card at all. It is just that the benchmarks at Tom's Hardware Guide said that the card should be getting about 97 fps on Dungeon Siege and I was just wondering why mine was not getting the same results.

Try in on a fresh instal of windows with absolutely no background tasks running. That should get you closer to Tom's scores. Oh yeah check your hardware compared to Tom's (type and brand of Ram, Hd with 8Mb data cache, ....).
