Hi, I have read Spitfire x86's buyers guide and after some of my own research have narrowed my next card purchase down to 2 cards. Radeon 9700pro or 9600pro. The R9700pro I have found for $199 and the R9600pro for $144. Is the performance difference worth the $55 or are these cards nearly on par with each other? Thanx for the help.

If you can afford it, get the 9700pro - it is much better. Check out some of the benchmarks on this site under the graphics cards section. It is definitely a step above.

These cards are *not* on par with each other. The 9700 PRO is still a high-end entheusiast card despite it's age, the 9600 PRO is a mid-end entheusiast card.

In layman's terms, the 9700 PRO can deliver excellent framerates while running 4x FSAA and 8x Anistopic filtering. The 9600 PRO can't.
