My HTPC is several years old, but still running fine for media playback. I am currently using integrated GeForce 9400 graphics, but was recently given a dedicated Radeon HD 5450 unit. I have been looking at benchmarks between these 2 GPUs and they seem to perform fairly similarly. I am wondering what you guys think, is it worthwhile to replace the integrated GeForce 9400 with the dedicated HD 5450? This will likely result in slightly more power consumption, but should free up some of the system memory since it's a dedicated card. Do you think I'll see any real world performance improvements with the swap? The graphics card will be used only to play HD (720p and 1080p) video, not for gaming. Thanks!

there won't by any big performance boost. By using the integrated the praphics engine is inside and cpu can communicate directly which is a big difference to the communication with a card which is bound via PCI. Especially the benchmarks looks similar I would prefer the onBoard Graphics.

Btw. the dedicated card will have way more power consumption than the onBoard graphics.
