Radeon or GeForce?

I'm looking to upgrade from my Gigabyte Radeon 9600 128MB DDR graphics card. I would appreciate any ideas of what to go for.

I've seen a few Geforce FX 5900XT's for good prices.
Is it worth getting one?

Or should I opt to stick with Radeon?

Any recommendations welcome.

In your case, definitely wait for the new cards to come out before upgrading, the R9600 should hold-up 'til then.

However, If you MUST upgrade now, then I would suggest the R9800 or R9800Pro, both are relatively cheap nowadays and many can be had for near the same price as an FX5900XT/SE/LX/etc. Although the FX5900XT isn't bad, and would likely be the best choice if one felt like going the FX route (although there are occasional good deals on FX5900non-ultra-non-xt/se/lx (usually the XFX kind).

The 9600 is fine until the new cards come out. It's dx9 and can pull decent fps with good iq.

Well I said it would be ok, it should do him 'til the new stuff comes out. However if there were some compeling reason, like a new game (like a Flight Sim), or a new higher res. monitor, then there may always be a reason for upgrading. However there deffinitely isn't a NEED to upgrade, not yet IMO.

I agree with waiting or buying a R9800 pro now. Gateway has a retail box BBA 9800 pro for $189 after rebate. Can't beat that.

Go the 9800 pro, it's a good card at a great price at the moment, if you find a GeCube 9800 pro extreme, it runs faster ram and clock speeds for teh same price ( it's only about 10 Mhz but hey, free frames is free frames)
