I was surprised this morning to find that my family had gifted me a radeon R7 250 with 2gb DDR3 graphics card. This card is supposed to blow my old graphics card out of the water and it was an easy install.

I downloaded the current drivers for it off the msi website, and decided to test it out when I came upon a snag. while my old card, a radeon hd 7450, is a lesser quality card it was able to play most of my steam games on low quality at least. this new R7 250 card however is unable to play at all, as on start up, I get either a fatal direct-X error has occurred (error 1000000 I believe) or the game starts up but is so slow as to be unplayable.

im not sure what the issue could be, as I have deleted the old drivers already. and my family who bought the card was told that a 300 watt power supply would be adequate for it.

if it helps, this website has the full specs to my computer, as I've not done any changes to it until now with the graphics card swap.

Solution
Your processor can actually handle it since it's a amd fx-6120 and you have 10gb ram. the only problem I see is your actually under-power. the minimum power for that gpu is 400watts, you better upgrade your psu because being under power might destroy your mobo and gpu.

the directx fatal error only happens most of the time if your missing some directx files try re-installing directx because sometimes it's the cause of the slowness.

Step 1:
Check whether your video card is capable of using DirectX 10 or DirectX 11
If you are sure that your video card is capable then, reinstall DirectX.
Follow the steps mentioned below to check
a. Click on Start menu and type in dxdiag.exe in the start search box and press Enter.
b. Check...
still unsure why this card is not working correctly for games. I can use it just for internet browsing purposes, but games will either never launch or if they do, are so slow as to be unplayable. is there additional software I have to download for this card to function?

Step 2:
It might be that there is an issue with the direct installed on the system. I would suggest you to download and install the latest direct X version from the website mentioned below.
