I have a system with a Gigabyte GA-A55m-DS2 motherboard with and AMD A6-3670 processor. I am currently using the AMD Dual Graphics feature with a Radeon HD 6570 PCIe graphics card.

I decided that I wanted to boost my graphics bought a Radeon R7 260X video card. When the card arrived, I removed the old card and installed the new one. When I did this, the system would only recognize video coming from the onboard ports. If I disable the onboard graphics, the system does not boot and won't complete POST (I get a BIOS error beep of 1 long and 3 short beeps. Research shows this to be a video card not detected error)

I contacted the manufacturer and they said to RMA it. Which I did. I ordered a new card (from a different manufacturer, but with the same chipset). When it arrived, I went through the same process and got the same result. The system will not detect that the card exists.

I have checked the power supply requirements (to the best of my ability) and it says that it should handle the load. I have an Ultra 550W power supply with the appropriate 6pin PCI-E connecters, they are seated firmly on the card

I'm really unsure what to do at this point. I've had this motherboard for over a year and the Radeon 6570 worked perfectly during that time. I have a hard time believing I got TWO bad R7 260X cards in a row (Especially from different manufacturers) so I'm under the impression that it's an issue with my motherboard. Has anybody use this particular part combo before? Should I consider purchasing a new motherboard or a new power supply to solve this issue?

Any help is appreciated.

Is the PSU's brand only "ULTRA" ? Does the gpu fan's spin up when u boot? You said you were fine with the 6570, can u check that again? Does it get's recognized? Have u changed the preference of the discrete gpu from the bios?

Yep. The PSU brand is Ultra (an LSP550 to be exact). The gpu fan DOES spin on bootup. That reinforces my idea that the card is not bad.

I'm currently running the machine with the 6570 installed to type this, so I know it's still working after trying to install the R7 and then switching back to the 6570. As far as BIOS preferences go, The only options I have is to either set the Onboard Graphics to Auto, Disabled, or Forced. If I set the graphics to Auto or Forced, with the R7 installed, then the system only recognizes the onboard graphics (even windows doesn't detect new hardware). If I set the bios setting to Disabled with the R7 installed, I get a BIOS beep and the system won't boot.

If I adjust that BIOS setting in anyway with the 6570 installed, it works as expected.

If your system has detected the 6570, then it would also recognize the 260x but it doesn't. therefore, the preference in bios is all right. Have u tried uninstalling all the gpu drivers of 6570 and other third party tweaking drivers and then checked? If all these attempts fail, psu might be then the psu might be damaged. Can u check the gpu on any other system?
