Radeon R9 270X - detected but no signal when connect to monitor

Tom's hardware,

I know there are a lot of other topics about the same problem but I cant really find the answer that I need so here I go...

Mobo: Asus H97-Pro gamer
RAM: Kingston HyperX fury 2x4GB
GPU: Radeon R9 270X
PSU: Thermaltake SP-650PCBAU 650W
and other stuff..

Got everything and built it yesterday, works fine if boot from on board graphic but gives "no signal" if GPU is chosen (the computer recognise the GPU as I can see it in device manager) - I have tried with VGA/HDMI on mobo and HDMI on GPU but still no signal

GPU has DVI I & D and HDMI, no VGA. I dont have a DVI cable yet (and from some other posts, problem's solved using a DVI cable).

However before I go out to the store to buy a DVI cable, can someone please advise whether this would be a good idea and what if that doesn't solve the problem? And as to why the GPU not giving any signal when chosen as default?

I'm not a tech guy so if you could use simple terms, that would be highly appreciated.

Did you plug in the 6 and 8 pin PCIE on the GPU together? Are the fans on the gpu spinning?

check the refresh rate on the ATi catalyst control panel, probably detecting your monitor as a HDTV and not outputting the correct refresh rate.

Had the same problem.
The r9 270x requires two 6pin connectors..make sure they are properly connected.
