I'm upgrading my PC and Don't plan on overclocking. I'm coming from a GTX 560 TI. Looking to play Star Citizen, Total War Series, Warframe, PS2, MMORPG's and be fine game graphic wise for next couple years.

Power Supply: Corsair TX 850
MOBO: Z97 PC MATE LGA 1150 (Same price as the H97)
CPU: Intel Core i5-4590 3.3GHz Quad-Core Processor
Memory: Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory

I can get a R9 280 for $180.00, which is more than I want to spend.

The R9 270 at $140.00 is more my price range. Is the 1 gig memory difference between the 2 noticeable? Will the R9 270 hold up a couple more years or should I spend the money on the 280?

To price compare, what NVIDIA card is equivalent to the R9 280?

Any other suggestions or alternatives on any specs appreciated.

If you can find a good GTX 960 around your budget, it's nearer the R9 280 than the 270 in performance. Personally, I'm a believer that for a gaming computer you should spend more on your GPU than your CPU. Don't get cheap when it comes to buying a graphics card, as you'll be disappointed and will end up having to upgrade much sooner than you hoped for.
