radeon r9 290x Nvidia equivalent?

Solution
You didn't get ripped off but you didn't buy it at a sale price either. It was a decent buy.

About the notebook your friend has, that's the fastest Mobile GPU AMD has to offer. Value wise it's not worth it and you are paying quite the premium for it. In addition to that, you really can't game for any period of time without plugging it in. The battery doesn't last long enough. That's the problem with these high end laptops, they increase the power draw with the GPU but don't compensate battery wise.

The mobile versions are not as fast and the desktop ones, so if you are comparing mobile to desktop, usually you should expect much less performance. Comparing the laptop you have to your friends, you would see about a 45% difference.

How bout comparing to 780mx? Also, will it have 3x more fps than 670mx?

The alienware laptop costed about 2000 dollars. How much does it really cost? Or did I mistaken?

This is the one I'm talking about. I've heard Alienwares charge hella lot overpriced compared to other laptops. My friend got this.

The one I bought from NCIX was around $1500, an ASUS G75VX with 670mx GPU, at July 2013. (Model: Asus G75VX -RH71-CA)

Also, in your opinion, did I get ripped off (maybe a bit harsh to say that)? Or is it a decent buy atleast considering I bought it back in 2013 July?

Oh alright, the regular games these days, 670mx will be decent enough right? And also, wouldn't an additional 500 dollars for 3x the power a good buy?

If you know a lot about laptops, I heard Alienware overheats alot, and have little lifespan, is that true? They also get a lot of hate. That is what drove me to Asus instead of Alienware in the first place. Is that true?

And er, I wasn't comparing to the Alienware desktop, but comparing to the laptop (just incase you mistaken):

Not all alienware laptops overheat, it depends from model to model. Dell owns alienware and they do a good job with their premium brands so even if the laptop does have a short life, Dells support is good. The downside is they do charge more than most other laptop OEMs.

The 670mx is still very good for a laptop and will be able to play every game coming out. Just don't expect to be on high graphics.

"And also, wouldn't an additional 500 dollars for 3x the power a good buy?" - Well than depends on your needs. Remember that laptop had a really short battery life. If it were me, I would buy the slightly less powerful model and save that $500 for when they release more power efficient laptops next year. You can then sell your old laptop and most likely end up paying nothing extra over what you would have paid.

Oh I see. Laptop for me is essential, because I move to houses to houses every week, and sometimes move it to my friends house. For me atleast, it feels like you own something cool that you can show off (because of portability, lol), and overall feel like you can game anywhere (with power source) unlike the TV or desktops, which I feel like I have to hide in my room all the time.

Also, how much do laptops sell for in perfect condition? I usually take care of my belongings very well, like a person with OCD. Lets say my $1500 laptop, how much will they resell at?

If it's in good condition you can get around $1,150. Right now they sell for $1,300, so were are taking off $150 for being used. The price will reduce year after year until it becomes outdated by either tablets or integrated graphics. No one's going to buy a laptop when there are cheap laptops or tablets that offer better performance. With the one you have I would say that would take 5-7 years.

Something of note, black friday is by far the best day to buy laptops. The recently past one featured an 870m for $800. Right now, That costs at least $1,200.

Oh okay, I have 1 more question.

Where is the best place to sell laptops? I'm assuming you'd eBay, but I heard there can be false disputes to paypal, and paypal usually lean towards the buyer.

Many places are going to lean towards the buyer. Amazon and ebay both do. The best way to counter this is to have overwhelming evidence that you, the seller, are not at fault. Take pictures of the device un-packaged, when packaged, and of the shipping label. It couldn't hurt to take a video of it starting up as well.

Does this happen a lot? Or does this happen occasionally if you're unlucky enough to encounter one? Also, what if the package is lost during shipping? Will it be my fault and I have to refund/pay for it?
In your opinion should I still my laptop in eBay or Amazon?

It depends on the person and the place. Personally I enjoy selling at places that offer customer protection. So long as I'm an honest seller, I know that my buyer is getting the best possible service.

That said, there are always a few rotten eggs that try to spoil the batch. People will try to claim a product was broken before they received it or something along those lines when in reality there is a good chance it was them (very small chance, the shipping company). If you have ample evidence on your side, you'll never have to worry about something like this.

eBay is easier for people who aren't experts at selling so that's where I would start. Amazon has a bit stricter rules when it comes to selling although if you can deal with them, go for it.

Alright, ty for the help
