So far I have been asking questions about the 980ti, until I stumbled on the Radeon R9 Fury X which is coming out in 6 days. I heard the drivers for the Radeon aren't as good as Nvidias.
1.)What else is wrong with AMD's graphic cards?
2.) should I get the Radeon R9 Fury X or the 980ti? I'm kind of leaning on the R9 Fury X

Solution
AMD provided benchmarks for the Radeon R9 Fury X were published today. Now all of the benchmarks were done at 4k resolution and covered 12 current games, and one run through 3DMark Firestrike, also at 4k resolution.

The embargo on other sources of benchmarks will drop in June 24th, the same day they go on sale everywhere.
1. Nothing is really "wrong" with AMD GPUs, just that they are positioned as more of a good performance for the price budget-conscious options, until you get the R9 family, which are performance oriented.

2. wait for the benchmarks to be sure. Some leaked ones so far show the Fury can go toe-to-toe with the Titan, for a price closer to the 980.

Solution
Compared the the current Nv cards, AMD can suffer from poor drivers for some new games, tho they normally fix it soon, and AMD cards also run hotter.

Two important points...
-The Fury cards are entirely different from what I understand, and are expected to shift the balance a bit.
-You have to look at performance/$. AMD know their cards are bit behind Nv, and price them accordingly. AMD have cards that aggressively compete with Nv cards right up to the 970. Anything faster, and you'll need an Nv card... for the next 6 days.

I'll be taking a very close look at the Fury/x to upgrade my 280x.

I can't recommend any one card, as both seems better in their own way.

While Fury X doesn't outperform any of the Nvidia's flagships (aka, TITAN X & 980 Ti), it certainly does at res more than 4k (although, it should again taper off after 5K, due to 4GB vRAM). It looks cool, is silent, and can be modding-friendly (not sure whether you are one of those who would take such advantage).

On the other hand, 980 Ti is still the performer at sub-4K & consumes less power. Besides, you don't have to work with AiO tubes dangling from the GPU (if that's what you prefer).

Price is the same for both cards, so, it's all upto you now. I'd personally choose 980 Ti for sub-4k setup, and fury X for 4k and beyond setup (that includes 1440p x 3 setup).

I think I'm going to also say it is a tossup. AMD came a long ways to get back to this point. This was a huge leap forward for them. They now have a video again that can trade blows with one of Nvidia's premier video cards, and it has been a very long time since they could say that. And since the prices are also the same, it is very much a toss up.

I do like the default water cooler AMD uses. But other than that, I think if you are now or are planning to do 4K within the next year, I might go with AMD. Otherwise, flip a coin.
