Hello,

I built this PC with a Radeon RX 480 8GB just several months ago with brand new components (full specs below) and I am experiencing crashes during graphic-intense games such as Assassin's Creed Syndicate. The screen suddenly goes one solid color, usually a red or purple and I must do a hard reset. Sometimes this is accompanied by a terrible sound coming through the speakers.

From reading different threads I've narrowed it down to a GPU or PSU issue. I purposely bought a PSU with a lot of overhead (750W) so I don't think that is the issue. I've tried increasing the GPU fan speed using Afterburner and even taking the side panels off my case and aiming a room fan at the PC. This in combination with setting the in-game graphic levels all to Low made the crashes less frequent but they still occur.

I'm having a separate issue trying to boost my Case Fan Speeds with Gigabyte's System Information Viewer. When trying to use the Smart Fan tab I get the error "Object reference not set to an instance of an object." I've read that this software is notoriously bad, so I would love a recommendation on how to control my case fans.

I've also seen here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nWDgrAQ678g that slightly overclocking while undervolting the GPU can solve this but I'm afraid to mess with this stuff more than 5% without advice specific to my setup. Is my PC not capable of these newer games? Can I fix the problem with some water cooling or messing with the clocking/volting settings? Please help!

Intel Core i3-6100 3.7GHz Dual Core
Gigabyte GA-B150M-DSH3 Micro ATX LGA1151
Mushkin Blackline 2 x 8GB DDR4-2400
Gigabyte Radeon RX 480 8GB
ADATA Premier SP550 248GB 2.5" SSD
Hitachi Ultrastar 7K3000 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM HDD
Corsair CXM 750W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi Modular PSU
Fractal Design S ATX Mid Tower
2 x Dynamic GP-14 140mm Case Fans (incuded in case)

Thanks in advance!

Edit:

A side note about the case fans. The MoBo only had one "System Fan" input so I had to get a splitter. I also tried changing the fan settings in BIOS but it doesn't seem to be possible with this MOBO.

Solution
Check if your graphics card had a driver update recently, i had a similar problem, PC would crash under high load to bright red screen. I fixed it by swapping to an older driver rather than the newest. My GPU had a driver update on the 10th of march and i reverted it to an old one from november and no more problems.

Also as for your rig everything is fine except the i3 which is a low end CPU, i would recommend upgrading to an i5 if you are able, make sure you MoBo socket is the correct socket before you go and buy an CPU.
