I'll be honest I skimmed the first paragraph and didn't notice it at first, but wow since when did Nvidia secretly launch a 7080? If the 7800 xt could compete with the 7080 I would really be impressed and it would be flying off the shelves since it beats a 3 generation newer card. :) (I'm joking if that wasn't clear)

Misleading title again..... How can a 3080 compete with a 4070Ti?

This gen is a failure honestly.. the 7700xt/rx6800 refresh at $400 would bê a good deal with 16GB since you can pick a rx6800 for around $350... its a DOA honestly at 12GB and $450. And the 7800XT at $450 would just..... not adding anything new since you can buy the 6800XT for $400, but its coming at $500? I mean... wtf... at least its better than shelling out $600 for Ngreedia

Honestly 6700XT ($250) for both 1080p/1440p ia good enough, RX6800 ($350) for 1440p if you want a little extra, and 7900XT ($700) for really good 1440p gaming and 4K as well. The 4090 slots in if you want a extra at 4K or money is no compromisse category, so other than the big guys this gen Just sucks. The 4070 12GB would be a ok buy at $500 and really good at $450, for $600 its a clear bad choice since its so close to the 7900XT, and even the 4070Ti is inferior at $100 more, not only Raster but its literally 12GB vs 20GB VRAM guys, its insane. The 4070Ti clearly should haver costed $600, consumers to blame. Then theres the 4080 ($1200) vs the 7900XTX ($900)... what do you get with $300 more? Less VRAM. Yep.. that sums It up

Least gen I had the 3080, this one I waited for price drops and now got the 7900XT. If rumours are true and there wont be 8900XT next gen then I'll prolly go 5090 and pair It with a 8K OLED screen and call It end game

They never mentioned the 3080 in the entire article so where are you getting the idea that it competes with the 4070 ti. Also AMD will probably drop the price of the 7800 xt and 7700 xt hours before launch like they did with the 7600 as long as there is enough pressure from the media and consumers.

Where is this fantasyland store you getting your prices from? I'd like to buy from the same store.

The RX 7800XT is launching at a lower price than an RX 6800 XT that's had its price gone down the hill over the years. It's also gonna be the faster card, what are you on about?

Yup the 6800XT was $649 but it was released right around a mining boom so it was rare to get it at that price most people paid way more myself included I owned one and paid $1500 for in 2021 luckily sold my RX 580 to bring the cost to me down to $1000.

The 7800XT will launch at $499 and there no mining boom to jack prices up so it should stay close to that.

This article and chart makes my brain hurt.. last I checked 'higher' is better in Time Spy...

Radeon RX 6800 XT19,5174,608
Radeon RX 7800 XT19,0003,840

Hopefully an editor shows up for work today and it gets fixed.

Inflation calculator say that $499 today is equal to $422.5 in 2020 dollars. I think that MSRP is good and didn't be decreased before launch. Maybe later.
If inflation calculators could be universally applied a 65 inch LCD TV that costs on average $2500 in 2010 should cost $3500 on average, yet they can be had for less than $1000 these days.

Inflation is an average change in costs over time across a broad set of categories and the change in those categories is extremely dynamic from one to the other. It's not a static constant that can be applied to things universally.

Great article about the deflationary changes in the cost of TVs. You can find patterns like the ones in this article in most consumer electronics.

but it will unlikely match the performance of Nvidia's GeForce RTX 7080 Ti

, you're a time traveler, you know how fast the RTX 7080 Ti will perform?
=D

This is either pure bunk or it's a very special (and lucky) case. It's literally impossible for the RX 7800 XT to be faster than the RTX 4070 Ti. Here's why:

Let's look at the specs for the RX 7900 XT:
AMD-Radeon-RX-7900-Series-Press-Deck_v2_Embargoed-Until-Dec-12-at-9am-ET-1-6.jpeg

Now let's look at the specs for the RX 7800 XT:
7700-7800-1-800x450.jpeg

So the 7900 XT has 40% more CUs, 25% more VRAM and a VRAM bus that is 25% wider while the RX 7800 XT is clocked 6% higher. According to the TechPowerUp GPU database, the RX 7900 XT is 11% faster than the RTX 4070 Ti.

Basically, there's not a chance in hell that the RX 7800 XT will be challenging the RTX 4070 Ti. You know that AMD completely screwed-up their Radeon nomenclature when their level-8 XT card can't even compete with nVidia's level-7 Ti card. The 7800 XT SHOULD be competing with the RTX 4080 but AMD managed to SNAFU that completely.

So based on a synthetic benchmark with little real world use outside "my d**k is longer!", the 7800XT  might land somewhere close to the 4070Ti? Yeah, no. I want to see actual games, not this nonsense.

Do not doubt that if AMD has cooked FSR 3 well, it will easily beat with the RX 7800 XT, many of Nvidia's graphics cards.

flexing his muscles for you to prove he's a time traveler?
Quick way to tell if someone is a body builder when looking at a pic like that is the shoulders/neck. The guy has tiny or no trapezius muscles there.

Additional info: If you get neck strain from sitting at your PC too long. Work out the traps for a month or two at the gym and it will go away. Also helps if you do long sessions wearing a VR headset.
