Hello, all day lines and dots have been appearing on my screen, which shift everytime a pixel changes somewhere, such as a cursor blinking or desktop gadget updating. what could be wrong?

Well usually graphical corruption is either down to a bad GPU chip on the card or the memory on the card being defective.
Check your temps to be sure its not a temperature issue as this will cause problems. GPU-Z will do this (free download)
Is this a new card or old card ? Have you made any changes recently ?

Mactronix :)

it's a one-year old acer 5740g. the temperature is fine and no major changes have been ade recently. the same thing happened a week ago for 5 minutes and then it disappeared again, only to come back with a terminal vengeance. when connected to the tv by hdmi so that both screens show the same thing the problem persists but with the tv as the only screen the picture's fine.
