Iam deciding on getting a ATi Radeon 32mb(sdram) or a GeForce2 MX. I haven't seen any benchmarks comparing the two so am ask your input on which one to get. Thanks!

Check this site out <http://www.rage3d.com/reviews/hardware/radeonsdr/index3.shtml>

There are many other sites like this that compare MX with Radeon SDR. You can clearly see that radeon beats the MX at 32 bit mode. Also it is a lot cheaper than the MX. If u like 16 bit mode (there is a difference between 16 and 32) radeon is only a bit behind the MX and I dont think that MX is worth that much money for that little bit of performance gain in 16 bit mode.

I'm going to buy the radeon sdr and would recommend u the same thing. The results speak for themselves.

By the way PCI Radeon 32 mb is the only 32 MB radeon that has sdr. Pci radeons dont have ddr momery, but agp ones do.

if you wait some more weeks you could buy a kyro 2 for almoust the same price..
and these kyro 2 is better than geforce 2 gts ddr at 32 bits high resolutions...

Kyro2 is more cpu dependent, if you have a Duron700 or equivalent and below the Kyro2 and the MX are close if you have a 1ghz cpu or above then the Kyro2 leaves the GTS and Radeon behind in a number of benchmarks. So choose wisely.

I prefer GeForc2 MX because it doesn't have any problems like Radeon in 16bit color and it just depends what memory does it use! I have CardExpert GeForce2 MX that has high quality memory and just kills Radeon at any resolution(I'm not saying that I can OClock it from 175/166 to 250/250, but at the same core and memeory speeds it beats IT!).
GeForce2 MX40 is even better...Strongly recomend buying gainwards CardExpert GeForce2 MX 32 or 64Mb card for good 60fps! ("_")(*_*)

Sounds like you have a MX Ultra there. Never saw a review where a MX beat the Radeon in 32bit color especially in the higher resolutions. You sure you don't have a GTS instead. If a Gainwards MX can go to 250/250 then hell yea get it, that is if it doesn't immediately fry and is stable.

man look at this bad quality picture of geforce 2 ...
quake 3

geforce picture at 16bit left...
kyro picture at 16 bit right...

at 32 bits kyro 2 will left geforce 2 mx far far far away !!!
😉

tomshardware geforce 2 Mx review...

<font color=red> I'm really looking forward to seeing how the acceptance of the Kyro II goes in the market, as it is a better product than the GeForce 2 MX, and at a better price point. NVIDIA needs a little more competition, and a little less domination. </font color=red>

if your going to get radeon and i would if i was you. get a ddr verson there not much more then $100 anymore. forget gforce anything unless your thinking gf3. as for kryo lol waist of money jsut one thing to say t&l you may not need it yet but when u do kryo is dead. and of course its faster now with out t&l jsut wait if u want to buy for the future get a radeon.

If you don't mind me interrupting you guys. A friend of mine asked me two weeks ago what the best <b> value </b> card is and I didn't hesitate to suggest the MX. The 3d prophet 2 mx is about 80 bucks which sounded/sounds like a good deal. I've recently read someone saying that the LE is even better than the MX so I was hoping someone might confirm that. I've just visited <A HREF="http:// www.newegg.com " target="_new">http:// www.newegg.com </A> and they are selling (If you can keep your eyes off the Geforce 3) a Radeon: <i> ATI Radeon 32MB DDR 4X AGP Video Card with TV Out - LE Version -Powered by the ATI RADEON graphics processing unit (GPU) Featuring ATIs CHARISMA ENGINE, PIXEL TAPESTRY and VIDEO IMMERSION technologies NO Hyper Z ! </i> for 88$. So my questions are:
1-Does the LE outperform the MX before or after the Hyper-Z hack?
2-Does the hack work all the time? I know my luck with hardware even a cool bits hack wouldn't work with me.
3-Do ATI guys release drivers often? I know Hercules is one of the best card manufacturers out there so It's hard to compete with them in terms of quality and support right?
Thanks in advance for your help.

wrong dude...
with T&L (like 3dmark 2000) it beats an T&L card !!
why ?

T&L is not a true feature!
we can have T&L via cpu it's nothing that kyro can't do !

T&L on geforce (the same for radeon) is processed on the same bandwidth of other tasks, fill rate will drop, if a game is bandwidth limited (most are in decent definitions), kyro will smile at this because the T&L is processed outside the card so there is no competition on kyro's bandwidth, thus kyro fill rate stays the same.
for a good cpu I even recommend kyro 2.
If we enable (hardware) T&L on a geforce (or radeon) on this bandwidth limited games the FPS will drop accordingly.

you could say that a geforce can process 10 million polygones, yap that is a theoretical maximum, geforce in this T&L maximum would not be able to do anything more!

Nvidia/ATI implementation of T&L is not that great. they should have used a different bandwidth path for this "marvellous" T&L.
their's T&L implementation on todays geforces are only for marketing purposes!
on a lower cpu this T&L could even help, but not on a decent cpu.

you could say that The GeForce/radeon boards can use the AGP bus to transfer vertex data without using any local bandwith. But that will kill the bandwidth avaiable from the cpu to the video card choking the speed!

there are many other factors in the future that will help kyro 2...
games with many textures layers , games with more complexity (more overdraw). these games will need more fill rate and kyro 2 have lots of it, unlike geforce and radeon!

if present games with T&L are representatives of future games (within a year from now, I am sure they are) then kyro will beat T&L card in T&L games with decent cpu's ....

I think we will need more fill rate than T&L in the near future . when true T&L games arrive we can get a kyro 3 or whatever !!!
VErtex shaders not Hardwire T&L will be the future...
T&L will be the MMX of videocards... vertex shaders will replace that T&L like 3dnow and SSE did for MMX !!

sub 100 US$ for 32 mb version .. a little above 100 US$ for a 64 mb version

man don't get me wrong but look at this future game that will use many texture layers...
maybe even T&L (not sure about that!!!
😉

I saw this on <A HREF="http://pvr.gamestats.com/start.shtml" target="_new">http://pvr.gamestats.com/start.shtml</A>

<font color=red>Edge Of Chaos: Independance War 2 is an upcoming space action game from the boys at Particle Systems. Particle Systems has been testing the KYRO II board out with this game and they are so impressed that they sent some in-game shots to Imagination Technologies who in turn sent them our way. Here's something Particle Systems had to say about the KYRO II:

Derek Marriott, Senior Programmer, Particle Systems Ltd, UK said: "They have about the best antialiasing quality I have seen on a piece of hardware."</font color=red>

here are some of the shots with the kyro 2...

Get a radeon le and flash its bios with a retail bios, an you'll have an $80 video card that kicks total ass. For details check out www.rage3d.com. The radeon Le even without the flash, smears a geforce mx. Whatever you do don't get a radeon ve, they are junk.

The thing I can't understand is why would ATI be selling two products, 100$ apart if they are so similar?

Sh!t Happens.

The Radeon can do multiple textures just fine, look at the 6 texture temple demo, my Radeon plows along at 68.5 FPS on the PowerVR benchmark at 1024x768x32. How many games are going to use 6 textures compared to how many games that will use hardware T&L and optimized for it? In either case the Radeon is ready.
