[SOLVED] Radeon XT 5700

I picked up a Radeon XT 5700 to add as an upgrade to my Lenovo Legion T530 desktop. The GPU has an 8 pin and 6 pin connector. I have an available 6 pin and 8 pin but the 8 pin seems not fit. Are both required? Or will I have to upgrade the PSU as well?

What is the make, model, and wattage of the PSU in your Lenovo desktop?

Are you sure the 8 pin is for a GPU and not for CPU power?
Does the connector coming from the PSU have the same shaped pins as the socket on the GPU?

There are different 8-pin connectors. PCIe power (for GPUs) generally have a 6+2 config.

There is another type of 8-pin used to power motherboards. It is usually a 4+4 config (or just 8-pins).

The pin pattern is different for each and they are not interchangeable.

As previously noted, you must have both connections for the GPU to work.

They usually have a cheap 500w PSU in them.

Thanks for the replies. I guess I’m upgrading the PSU as well then. Added the Corsair RM850x to my cart.

I dont think an OEM 500w would have been a great idea with an RX5700XT anyhow.
