Raid 0 7,200 or raptor for os drive?

Currently i have a 750 gb wd hard drive (model wd7501aals)
and im using it for my os drive.

im considering buying a second identical model for $75 aprox. and putting it into a raid 0 setup for my operating system drive.

or i can purchase a 150 gb raptor (10,000 rpm) for $140 (model WD1500HLFS)

according to hd tune with my 750 gb hard drive my access time is 6.6 ms.

which would provide overall better performance?



also i play games off of my hard drives, would they run faster on a separate drive or on my os drive?

If it's performance you're looking for, why buy a $140GB hard drive when you can buy an SSD (Solid State Disk) for a similar cost? The SSD won't hold as much, but it will be a lot faster, and you only need one big enough to hold the OS and whatever other applications you use.

the problem is i need over 100 gb .... so thatd be a minimum of $240 in ssd land

I've got two Seagate 500Gb 7200.12s. I waited for that edition because they'd fixed the firmware issues and had really quick 500Gb individual platters. When I put them in RAID 0 with a basic on-board controller I pull about 220MB/s read and write sustained. Individually they do about 135MB/s. If you've got a better controller then I imagine you'd get better results. Point is I've got a 1tb C: drive that's wicked fast for $110

Seek times aren't as good as an SSD, but when you're constantly backing up and transferring lots of music and movies to storage I've got shared on the network its worth it, especially for the cost
