RAID 0 and Boot HDD

If you have time I need your opinion. I have Windows Home Server installed on a 160 GB HDD right now. I just purchased two 2 TB WD Green drives for storage. What is my best option? Can I make a RAID 0 with the 2 drives and re-install WHS on the RAID 0 array? Will it allow me to install on a partition larger than 2TB. Should I leave WHS on the 160 GB HDD and install the 2 WD Green in RAID 0 if possible? Can I have a regular boot HDD and then install data drives in RAID 0 on the same PC? Should I leave the 160 GB drive just install the 2 2TB drives as seperate drives and move the storage folders to each drive as needed? I'm really in need of advice. Thanks.

Solution

Exactly. Do not RAID those. Leave the OS where it is and just add the two discreet drives.
You don't say what you trying to achieve..
You asking about RAID0.,. so I assume speed.. so why you buy Green?
Bin the 160GB.. buy a SSD for speed...
Use the green for data....
Could do raid0 for a little extra speed.. but if one drive goes you lose all data..
So may be keep separate.. so if one goes you only lose half...
Of go RAID1 and you lose half space.. but if a drive faile.. you lose nothing.

Lots of options
HTH
Cheers

I figured that. I read if I change bios to RAID then reinstall WHS on the 160 GB drive I could then set up the 2 2TB drives in RAID 0? Is this possible or will I get the 2TB limit because the drives wont be GPT partitioned. These new drives larger than 2TB are frustrating to work with. Thanks.

I'm not looking for speed. It's a home server. I chose green because they are economical.

Thanks for your help. I just thought if I RAIDED the 2 TB drives I could have a single 4TB one instead of 2 separate drives but I was worried about the headaches it would cause. Just curious could I RAID 0 the 2 drives? If so would it allow larger than a 2.2 TB partition? Would it work not being GPT initialized?

Just by being in RAID 0 will not change that. The OS and file system sees that as one volume

Just installed them. Everything went smooth. Thanks again.
