RAID 0, disk striping

If I have 2 hard drives and Win 2K pro will I be able to do disk striping or do I need three hard drives with the OS on a non-striped drive? How should I connect the striped drives to the IDE controller? As master-slave or master-master? If I do master-master than one of the drives will be a master of a CD drive configured as a slave. Will the CD drive slow down the drive sharing the same IDE connector?

I'm looking strictly for speed without any reliability. Unfortunately I don’t have hardware RAID on my motherboard.
