Hi everyone, I have a NAS with 2 500GB disks where RAID 1 is installed. I want to expand my NAS. I want to put a 1TB disk in the NAS. My question is is it possible that I first put 1 disk of 1TB in the NAS and wait for it to sync and after that put the other 1TB disk in the NAS so that I have 2 synced disks? Or should I do something else?

Solution
It would depend on the NAS. You should read the user's manual for your specific model. The general answer is no. RAID 1 won't usually grow the volume. Usually you would have to backup to another drive and restore. Many NAS units have USB3 ports for just this purpose. Besides, you should NEVER have only one copy of critical data. RAID is not a substitute for multiple backup copies.
