Hi there. I am buying SSD's for my new PC. On my mobo (ASUS P8Z77-V) i have 2 SATAIII form intel (RAID-able) and 2 SATAIII (probably no RAID) form asmedia and 4 SATA II from intel chipset. As far as i know i can't put on 4 drives SATAIII on RAID without external controller cos manual says nothing about raid on asmedia. I like to get about 200 GB on ssd's so got 2 options:

1. 2 x SATAIII SSD about 100 GB i.e. OCZ Vertex 4 RAID 0 gives me about 200 GB and 2gb/s

2. 4 x SATAII SSD about 50 GB i.e OCZ Vertex 2 RAID 0 gives same storage and speed

What option would you suggest?

Thanks a lot!

Just get a 240-256GB SSD and skip RAID. SSD are PLENTY fast without RAID, and RAID kills garbage collection on SSD. You'll waste money and not get any difference in real world speed.

imo difference between 500 mb/s and 1gb/s (sorry not 2gb/s my mistake in calculations ;p) is great dif. faster loading everything. less wait=more fun 🙂

SSD's in RAID are noticeably faster. Why choose a slower setup? Certainly it's a matter of opinion. But some opinions are better than others. 😉
