I'm a videographer looking to make a second copy of archived projects.

At the moment I use a 4 bay HDD enclosure with a few 4TB HDDs. These are set up as regular drives which I drag and drop files onto as I archive projects.

Recently I purchased two 16TB Seagate Iron Wolf HDDs, and this enclosure.

I was looking to create a RAID 1 storage solution, however based on what I am reading, I probably should not trust the enclosure's built-in RAID controller.

Windows Storage Spaces seems like a no-go, because they're external drives. I've had a look at Macrium Reflect which seems like it would work, but having the drives appear as one in This PC seems much more hassle-free.

What would be my best course of action here? I would like the drives to be accessible and for the mirroring setup to remain intact should my PC fail or if I switch PCs.

Thanks 🙏

In the consumer space, the answer to the question off RAID is generally - Don't.

RAID is NOT in any way a backup.
The RAID 1 you're considering is only good for continued uptime, in the event of physical drive fail.
It does nothing for all the other forms of data loss.

Macrium Reflect is a great tool for backups. It is my go to application.
Possibly you're looking at it wrong.
