Raid card ports

Can anyone tell what ports on a raid card are? Does it have to do also with the drive ports on a board?

Low end (cheap) RAID controller cards have SATA ports on them. Mid-range and High-end RAID cards have SAS or mini-SAS ports.

No. RAID controller cards plug into PCIe slots on the motherboard.

Also how can I add 8x drives in raid 10?

SATA ports are 1 drive per port.
mini-SAS ports are typically 4 drives per port.
