Hi,

I have the Asrock H77M motherboard (http://imgur.com/08cDQlh). I need more SATA ports so have decided on a RAID controller/card.

The problem is I have a GPU in the first pci-e slot and a sound card in the second slot (http://imgur.com/a/bLItJ).

What can I do? Do I need a new motherboard?

Solution

I see a PCI slot in there...why not just use a PCI RAID card? They are usually pretty slim :)

Here's a few from newegg...http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&IsNodeId=1&N=100007607%20600022728

You need more than 6 (or 5 + optical) 6TB drives? If your 5+ drives are smaller than the max available, I'd start consolidating to larger drives, consider RAID5 instead of 10 (if you are using RAID) etc.

I've just built a 12TB NAS for business - 4 x 6TB in RAID 10 for data security, only uses 4 slots. You need more?

I guess the answer is get bigger drives.
