Hi. I am looking for a PCIE x1/x2/x4 Raid Controller card for my system. Fyi, I am using all six sata ports already. I want to add more storage.

My system:

Intel 6700K
msi Z170
Zotac 980Ti amp-extreme
16GB ddr4-3200 Ram
2TB WD Green x1
3TB Toshiba x4
Asus DVRW x1

I would greatly appreciate some examples of raid cards that are compatible with the windows10 pro OS.

all the raid cards i am seeing are for people with older systems.

please help!!

Pretty much all the mainstream RAID adapters are compatible with Win 10.. Its a loaded question cause there's a LOT of RAID cards out there with a LOT of features. What exactly are you planning on doing in regards to RAID?

Also, you mention x1/x2/x4. Is the PCIe slot you want to install in only physically an x4 slot or is it an x16 slot with only 4 PCIe lanes? This is gonna seriously make a difference in regards to your options.

There's also simple SATA expansion cards that plug in to a PCIe slot and only eat 1 or 2 PCIe lanes and can provide you 4 more SATA ports, using Marvell chips. These don't really impact your boot times like a RAID card will either.

Yes its the sata expansion cards [pcie x1] that I am looking for

Ok. If you're simply looking to add a couple SATA connections, and you only have a PCIe x1 slot available, there's several PCIe x1 cards that simply have 2 x SATA connectors on them. The first one listed by Calvin is on example. Just note that one a PCIe 2.0 x1 connection you've only got roughly 500MB/s of throughput to the motherboard, so you wouldn't want to connect two SSDs to this. Two HDDs though, no problem.

The next big question is if you're simply looking to connect more hard drives or are you actually wanting to build a RAID array with a few drives? If RAID, what RAID type and with how many drives?

You can have five drives (up to 5 x 10TB) RAID5 (protected raid) that works in ANY OS, due to drivers-less feature, create a RAID5 can take less than 45 sec. Yes less 45 SECONDs and can roaming to ANY Windows system

For the external version you can use this:

Very easy to use
a) set the desire raid level
b) press & hold change switch
c) Turn on the power
d) When you hear a beep. your raid is ready to use
That is it

These are the ones I am planning to buy any one. Any reasons they arent good for my Windows10Pro system?

No I am not going to RAID. Just JBOD.
