i currently have the spinpoint 500gb. I would like to raid 0 for better performance

1) do i need the exact same drive to RAID 0
2) is it worth the 40+ dollars?

Solution
1) No.
2) No.

raid-0 is much misunderstood. It is great for sequential benchmarks, but that is not what we do in real life.
The normal desktop user will do lots of small random reads and writes. A task that a SSD is very good at, but not raid-0.

Save up for a ssd.
