Question Raid Scan Frequency

I have a Buffalo LS421DE NAS with 2@WD Black 3 TB hard drives. The drives are typically 60-80% full. I do a full backup to the NAS weekly with daily incremental backups on two computers. Present setup does a raid scan twice per month. The scan usually takes a couple of days. My question is whether doing the scan twice monthly is actually decreasing the time to drive failure? Would one scan per month be enough?

That does not at all seem right and unlikely to be a Networking [Category] problem.
